Incident Summary

Rancher William "Mac" Brazel found unusual metallic debris on a ranch near Corona, NM, roughly 75 miles from Roswell, after a storm on July 6th.

On July 8, 1947, RAAF intelligence officer Major Jesse Marcel investigated, and the military initially announced they recovered a "flying saucer".The military quickly changed their story, displaying debris from a weather balloon/radar target to the press to discredit the initial report. Later it would be claimed that the balloon was part of thesecret  Russian nuclear intel gathering program named Project Mogul.

Witnesses described the material as lightweight, impossible to burn or cut, and featuring unusual, indestructible, beam-like materials. The event was largely forgotten until the late 1970s, when researchers began interviewing witnesses who claimed they were intimidated into silence, turning the incident into the world's most famous UFO conspiracy. Some witnesses claimed they were threatened into silence by men in black suits.
