Brief Bio

In Norse mythology and folklore, Margygr (Old Norse for "sea-spirit" or "sea giantess") refers to a type of mermaid, a sea-dweller often depicted as having a woman's upper body and a fish's lower body. These creatures could be benevolent, offering help to fishermen, or malevolent, appearing before violent storms. Margygr is sometimes associated with the goddess Rán and her husband Ægir, who personify the sea and also had numerous offspring.
