Brief Bio

Xquic, also known as Lady Blood, is a significant figure in the Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the K'iche' Maya. She is the daughter of Cuchumaquic, one of the lords of Xibalba, the underworld.

Her story begins when she hears about a forbidden tree (Calabash Tree) that bears the heads of the Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, who were previously defeated and killed by the lords of Xibalba. Curiosity leads her to the tree, where one of the heads speaks to her and spits into her hand, impregnating her.

This act of defiance against her father and the lords of Xibalba leads to her banishment. She flees to the surface world and seeks refuge with the grandmother of the Hero Twins, Ixmucane. Despite facing suspicion and challenges from Ixmucane, Xquic proves her worth and gives birth to the new Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque (named after their fathers), who will eventually avenge their fathers and defeat the lords of Xibalba.

Xquic is a symbol of courage, resilience, and the continuation of life in the face of death and adversity. She plays a crucial role in the cyclical nature of life and death depicted in the Popol Vuh, and her story is a testament to the power of life and the triumph of good over evil.
