Brief Bio

In Mesoamerican mythology, specifically within the Maya Popol Vuh narrative, Hun Batz and Hun Chuen are prominent figures often depicted as monkey-like artisans and musicians. They are the elder half-brothers of the Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, and initially embody artistic skill and musical talent. However, their arrogance and mistreatment of their younger brothers lead to their transformation into monkeys, a punishment orchestrated by Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Despite their transformed state, they retain their artistic inclinations and are revered as patrons of the arts, particularly music and writing.
