Brief Bio

In Japanese mythology, Ukemochi (also known as Uke Mochi or Ōgetsu-hime) is a goddess of food. She is associated with providing sustenance, and is sometimes considered a goddess of abundance, encompassing food, clothing, and shelter. She is a prominent figure in Shinto beliefs and is even worshipped at Ise Shrine alongside Amaterasu.

Ukemochi is involved in two different versions of the same very important tale. * In both versions she is killed due to anger from the food she served, which is revealed to be produced from her body. Afterwards, various food sprout from the body parts of her corpse.

In one version she is killed by Susanoo, the other by Tsukuyomi, which explains why the sun and the moon do not occupy the sky at the same time.
