Key Points / Halloween Connection
- Fictional setting for "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and home of the Headless Horseman
Rink Fact: North Tarrytown changed it's name to Sleep Hollow, so I guess my first key point isn't really true.
Brief Bio
Sleepy Hollow's Halloween connection is primarily derived from Washington Irving's 1819 short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," which was inspired by the area's Dutch folklore and the real-life history of the Hudson Valley during the Revolutionary War. The town of North Tarrytown officially renamed itself Sleepy Hollow in 1996 to honor the story, and the area now hosts many Halloween-themed events that celebrate this literary history, such as the popular Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze and various tours of historical sites like the cemetery and Lyndhurst Mansion.
