- Community intiative to combat the increasingly destructive waves of arson that hit Detroit on Devil's during the 1970's and 80s

Brief Bio

"Angels' Night" in Detroit was a city-wide community and volunteer initiative, launched in the 1990s, to combat arson and vandalism during Halloween by replacing the previous "Devil's Night" tradition of crime and destruction with peaceful neighborhood patrols and positive community activities.

The program saw thousands of volunteers patrol the streets, significantly reducing the number of fires from the 800+ seen in the 1980s to a few dozen by the 2010s.

While the official city initiative was retired in 2018, the spirit of community spirit and celebration has continued in Detroit.
