Brief Bio

The Underworld rivers are not simply bodies of water, but personifications of the emotional and spiritual states associated with the journey to and within the realm of Hades.  Each river holds a distinct quality, reflecting the trials and tribulations of the dead.

Styx:  The most famous river, the Styx is a river of oaths, its waters binding the gods and mortals to their promises.  Crossing it is essential for all the dead, a testament to the permanence of the Underworld. It is also known as the river of hatred.

Acheron:  The river of sorrow and lamentations.  It's a dark and murky stream that reflects the pain and grief accompanying the transition to the afterlife.

Cocytus:  A river of wailing and despair, its waters represent the deepest anguish and remorse.

Phlegethon:  A river of fire, embodying the torment and punishment inflicted upon the wicked in the Underworld.

Lethe:  The river of forgetfulness.  Its waters grant oblivion to those who drink from it, erasing their past lives and memories.
