Key Info

- Spirit realm where Nsamanfos reside

Brief Bio

Asamando, in Akan cosmology, is the spiritual realm or "land of the dead" where the ancestors (Nsamanfo) reside. It is the destination for the souls of the deceased, who transition from earthly life to this spiritual plane. The Akan believe that the universe is fundamentally spiritual, and Asamando is the specific place where ancestral spirits permanently dwell.

Upon death, the physical body (honam) and blood (mogya) return to Asase Yaa (Mother Earth), while the soul (kra), breath (honhom), and character (sunsum) return to Nyame (the supreme God). However, the sunsum, which embodies the individual's personality, also plays a crucial role in the transition to Asamando.
